Narrative

Sleepy Hollow is based in the 18th century ( 1799) and is set in New York. The top detective at the time in New York is  ' Ichabod Crane' ( played by jhonny Depp) is sent by his superiors to the Westchester County hamlet of Sleepy Hollow, to investigate a series of brutal slayings in which the victims have been found decapitated. Crane uses new techniques from the city to investigate the crimes such as finger-printing and autopsies. Crane arrives in Sleepy Hollow armed with his bag of scientific tools only to be informed by the town's elders that the murderer is not of flesh and blood, rather a headless supernatural warrior from beyond the grave who rides at night on a massive black steed.


Audience

 

The target audence for the tale can range from as young as 7 years old onwards, there are so many different variations of the tale and all differ witht he amout of grusomeness involved, some being scarier than others. The origional story is based from kids 10 and above.

Representation

The duration of the film is set in the westchester country hamlet of sleepy, which is basically a county side in the moors , very dark, minimal lighting and foggy surrounded by forrestry, so when the 'headless horseman' strikes on his ' black steed' he is able to merge in to his surroundings making his kills far easier.

All the people that the 'headless horseman' kills are related in some way/ form or have have previous history with him. it's only recently that the horseman has stuck again , this time far worse, needing the help of Crane. With the film being set in the 18th century the people follow the roles of victorians, and being on the countryside typical jobs enclude farmers, inn keepers and housewives.

Genre

Sleepy Hollow is a 1999 American horror film directed by Tim Burton. It is a film adaptation loosely inspired by the 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"
